Vélo Bike Ride – Romsley 24th September
On Sunday 24th September 2017, Romsley will be on the route for the Vélo-Birmingham Cycle Ride, a major new 100 mile closed road cycling event. The 100 mile route will take cyclists of all abilities from Birmingham City Centre, through Dudley, Sandwell, Staffordshire, Herefordshire and Worcestershire before returning to Birmingham.
It is estimated that over £1million will be raised for good causes, but unfortunately the event will have a major impact on our local roads, with road closures in Romsley between 08:30 and 17:15.
The route will leave Clent into Romsley via Chapel Lane and St Kenelms Road, before exiting Romsley up Dark Lane, and Bromsgrove Road into Day House Bank. We are assured that there will be marshalled “crossing points”, however we anticipate that these crossing points will be difficult to operate with an estimated 15,000 cyclists taking part.
Therefore, it is safe to assume that on the date of Sunday 24th September vehicle access through the village will not be possible and pedestrian movement will be severely restricted.
We are therefore asking all residents to be aware of these restrictions and ensure you have planning in place. Consider any social care arrangements or vital deliveries planned for this date.
Whilst Romsley Parish Council are pleased to see an event such as this held within our Parish, we would like it to be clear that we were not actively consulted on the route despite the extensive and lengthy closures that will affect the Parish, nor have we approved it at any point. Any issues or complaints regarding this event should be directed to Worcester County Council.
We have attached the Velo Resident Closure Letter which shows the route and road closure times. More information is expected to be available on the official website.
