2016 Romsley and Hunnington Parish Show
On Saturday 3rd September the 22nd the annual show was held at the Romsley Scout Centre and proved to be a very well supported and successful event. It was a rather wet Saturday, but despite this many local villagers donned their waterproofs and joined us for a drink and a slice of homemade cake (the choice was excellent and thank-you to our own “Bake Off Champions”).
The spring and summer seasons did not provide us with the best of growing conditions this year, but nonetheless there was a good selection of vegetables and fruits on show. An impressive range of a chrysanthemums, dahlias were on display and both woodland and garden flower arrangements were also exhibited. There were lots of scones, Victoria sandwiches and a range of handicrafts. One of the highlights and most difficult to judge was the large number of decorated wooden spoons in the children’s section, entered by the Rainbows.
The afternoon was rounded off with an entertaining and successful auction of many of the exhibits which provides important funds towards next year’s show. Paul Share worked incredibly hard as our resident auctioneer and even managed to auction the same marrow twice after it was re-donated!
The show would not happen without a great deal of hard work from a great many people and the financial support from both Romsley and Hunnington Parish Councils as well as the generosity of all of our local business in proving a range of welcome raffle prizes, so a big “thank you” to you all.
Having said that, we are always open to ideas and suggestions and any offers of help or sponsorship would be very welcome.
I believe that the show is an important aspect of village life and it was very rewarding to see so many people having a chat over a cuppa and some excellent cake with old friends and new. We look forward to seeing you all again at next year’s show. We will confirm the date very soon….
